Word Counter
Count characters, words and lines as you type.
Compare two texts and highlight exactly what changed.
Compares two texts line by line and marks additions, removals and edits, entirely in the browser.
Compares two versions **line by line**, labelling each as unchanged, added or removed, with counts for the added and removed lines.
Alignment resynchronises by looking **up to five lines ahead**, so the usual edits (changing a few lines, inserting a few) produce a readable diff.
Everything runs locally, which suits configs, logs and draft copy — nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Paste a version on each side
Old on the left, new on the right, then run the comparison.
Read the three markers
Green is added, red is removed, and unchanged lines stay visible for context.
Check the counts
The header counts added and removed lines, which is the quickest read on how big the change is.
Because the granularity is the **line**: any difference in a line makes it "remove the old one, add a new one". For character-level detail you need a tool that highlights inside the line (git `--word-diff`, for instance) — this site does not have a character-level diff yet.
Because resynchronisation only looks **five lines ahead**: once an inserted or deleted block is longer than that, the algorithm cannot find the matching point and treats the rest as removed plus added. It is a known limit of this implementation — the result is still correct (all the content is there), just less readable.
