Base64 Encode / Decode
Encode text to Base64, or decode it back.
Decode a JWT to inspect its header and payload claims.
Decodes a JWT header and payload and shows the expiry — locally, so the token is never sent anywhere.
Decodes both segments as base64url, padding or not, and reads the payload as UTF-8 — accented and CJK claims come out as text, not mojibake.
A token with an exp claim also gets a readable expiry and an expired flag, evaluated against your own clock.
Parsing happens entirely in the browser, so the token is never uploaded — which is also why the page states plainly that it does not verify the signature.
Paste the token
Three dot-separated parts; results appear as you paste. The Sample button loads a standard HS256 token to compare against.
Read the header and payload
The header carries the algorithm and type, the payload the claims (sub, iss, exp …). The first segment alone tells you whether it is HS256 or RS256.
Look at the signature, but do not trust it
The third segment is shown as-is. To know a token was not tampered with, the signature has to be verified server-side with the key.
Verifying needs the signing key and the algorithm, and a key in the browser is no longer a secret. So this tool only decodes: anyone holding the token can read exactly the same content. Verify signatures on the server, with the same key that signed them.
The three-part error means it is not a JWT (a missing signature segment, for example). Garbled output usually means the segment is not standard base64url; this tool already accepts base64url without padding, so the next thing to check is whether the token was truncated when copied.
Encode text to Base64, or decode it back.
Produce URL-safe Base64 without padding characters.
Encode or decode text using the Base32 alphabet.
Encode or decode numbers and text in Base36.
Encode or decode with Base58, the alphabet Bitcoin addresses use.
Turn text into its 0 and 1 representation.
Turn a binary string back into readable text.
Convert text to a hexadecimal string.
JWTs are only Base64-decoded here — signatures are not verified. Do not rely on decoded sensitive data in production.
JSON Web Token (JWT) is an open standard (RFC 7519) for transmitting information between parties securely.
