Base64 Encode / Decode
Encode text to Base64, or decode it back.
Produce URL-safe Base64 without padding characters.
Base64URL is the URL-safe variant of Base64, used by JWTs and other values that travel in a URL. Replace + with - Replace / with _ Drop the trailing = padding
Base64URL differs from standard Base64 in exactly three places: `+` and `/` become `-` and `_`, and the trailing `=` padding is dropped — those three characters need escaping inside URLs, file names and cookies.
Decoding accepts the unpadded form (the tool pads it back itself), and CJK or emoji text round-trips as UTF-8.
Everything runs in the browser. It is not encryption, though: anyone can decode it back, it only moves bytes into a text-safe alphabet.
Paste text or a URL
The sample is an https link; the encoded result is letters, digits and `-_` only, safe to drop into a query string.
Switch to Decode
A JWT segment, an OAuth state value or a redirect URL with parameters all decode back to the original text.
Copy the result
Both directions share one input, so switching does not lose what you pasted.
Not interchangeably: a `+` or `/` from standard Base64 is an ordinary character here, so it decodes wrong or fails, and the reverse holds too. Converting by hand takes two steps — swap `+` back to `-` and `/` back to `_`, then add or strip the trailing `=`.
A JWT has to travel inside URLs, HTTP headers and cookies, where `+`, `/` and `=` all need percent-escaping. base64url is the alphabet RFC 4648 §5 defines for exactly that.
